Eddie Murphy is going back to Zamunda. After years of speculation, a sequel to his 1988 comedy Coming to America is officially a go. According to Deadline, Craig Brewer, who just directed Murphy in Dolemite Is My Name, is on board to helm the film. Kenya Barris is re-writing the script, previously penned by original Coming to America writers Barry Blaustein and David Sheffield.

And, of course, Murphy—who’s eased out of the spotlight over the last few years—will reprise his role as the good-hearted Prince Akeem Joffer. The rest of the cast has not yet been announced, but Deadline notes that the plan is to bring back former stars like Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones, John Amos, and Shari Headley.

“After many years of anticipation, I’m thrilled that Coming to America 2 is officially moving forward,” Murphy said in a statement to Deadline. “We’ve assembled a great team that will be led by Craig Brewer, who just did an amazing job on Dolemite, and I’m looking forward to bringing all these classic and beloved characters back to the big screen.”

Dolemite Is My Name is a biopic about Rudy Ray Moore, the comedic performer and blaxploitation star who played the title role in the 1970s-era Dolemite film series. That film’s cast included numerous heavy hitters, including Chris Rock, Wesley Snipes, and Keegan-Michael Key. Brewer also directed Hustle & Flow and several episodes of the hit series Empire.

“Craig’s ability to create a distinct cinematic world with each of his films is not only impressive, but also what made him exactly the voice and vision we needed to bring this story to life,” Barris said in a statement to Deadline. “From Hustle & Flow to his work with Eddie on Dolemite Is My Name, he never fails to blow me away. He is a true auteur, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have him on board.”

Murphy and Kevin Misher will produce, while Barris will executive produce the sequel. Production will hopefully begin this year.

Per Deadline, Coming to America 2 will revolve around Prince Akeem finding out about a long-lost son and going to America to find him, as he’s now the heir to Zamunda. Here’s hoping things turn out better for him than they did for baby Killmonger.
