Bryan Cranston Will Neither Confirm Nor Deny That Breaking Bad Movie

“I assume something’s happening, but maybe, maybe not,” the actor said, helpfully.

Bryan Cranston is determinedly inscrutable about those Breaking Bad movie reports. It’s been one week since news broke that Vince Gilligan, the creator behind the meth-laced AMC hit, was cooking up a feature set in the Breaking Bad universe, a story that may or may not follow the grim post-finale saga of Jesse Pinkman (played by Aaron Paul). Gilligan himself has since remained mum on the reports, as have all the other pertinent parties—including Cranston, who refused to reveal any details of interest in a Tuesday interview on the Today show.

When Savannah Guthrie asked Cranston point-blank if a movie was happening, the actor feigned ignorance. “I don’t know, is there?” he asked. “That would be so exciting! Oh my gosh!”

Confound it, Cranston! He continued, saying that if there is a movie, his character, Walter White, probably wouldn’t have much to do in it. “What are they gonna, show me on a slab?” Cranston asked, referring (five-year-old spoiler alert!) to Walt’s death in the original show’s finale. Still, the actor maintained that he definitely knows nothing about this Breaking Bad film of which we speak.

“I have no idea. I’ve never seen the script. I assume something’s happening, but maybe, maybe not. There’s a lot of hyperbole swirling around that whole thing,” he offered. In other words, we know exactly as much now as we knew before. Time is a flat circle. That’s from a different show, but you get the point.

When asked if he would want to do a movie with Gilligan and co., however, Cranston went full ham, turning to the camera and going, “I’d love to do a Breaking Bad movie. But I’m doing Broadway now.”

Ah, right, that little hitch. Cranston is currently starring in the stage adaptation of Network, which is running from November 13 to mid-March. The man’s busy . . . but that doesn’t mean that Gilligan couldn’t find some movie-magical way to sneak a Walter White cameo into this mysterious film.
