Channing Tatum Got a Horse for His Birthday and He’s Very Happy About It

The quickest way to a man’s heart is through a horse.

What do you get for the Channing Tatum who has everything? It’s a question that’s long plagued us all, as we want desperately to please our dance-king, but find it hard to reward him with something he does not already possess. Though, of course, some people are keener to the whims and wants of America’s meatheart, people like his wife, Jenna Dewan Tatum. It was Channing’s 36th birthday on April 26, and Jenna got him a most splendid gift: a horse.

Yes! Like rulers of old, Channing Tatum has been gifted a horse. Much in the same way that you, centuries ago, might have brought with you a pure white stallion when visiting a neighboring kingdom to welcome the birth of a new prince, or might have given a warlord’s bride a shimmering black mare as a wedding present, Jenna Dewan Tatum has presented her husband with a beautiful caramel steed to honor him as he begins another journey around the sun. Tatum seems thrilled.

We glimpse the horse, a rescue creature who was either already named Cajun or whom Tatum has named Cajun, in a pair of posts that the Magic Mike star put on Instagram yesterday. One post (seen above) is a static shot of dear Cajun in front of a glimmering Airstream trailer, suggesting that the Tatums went camping to celebrate the birth of the boy from the bayous. (Tatum’s background offers some indication that Cajun is a name that he came up with. To look at that horse, you would probably name it something a little more sensible, a normal horse name like Dayfire or Sunsword or Brownlight, but because Tatum is from the swamps, he gave the horse a swamp name.)

The other Instagram post is a video, in which Tatum rides atop Windshine, I mean Cajun, with his face painted. Tatum’s face is painted, not the horse’s. (It is believed that Tatum’s daughter painted his face.) Tatum seems very happy to be out riding trails with his new pal, which is nice. Most movie stars are only happy sitting in leather banquettes in clubs so exclusive they disappear at dawn, never to be seen again, a champagne and Ciroc I.V. hooked up to their veins while one of the Hadid girls floats around the ceiling banging into the lights like a moth. But not Channing Tatum! No, no. He’s happy to be out in the wilderness with his missus, riding the lonesome road on old Starhammer, I mean Cajun! Cajun, sorry. It’s just such a weird horse name.

What did Tatum and his horse do while out on the range? Did they catch any foxes? Did they do 21, or maybe even 22, jumps? Did they see an eagle, or trot some steps up a mountain to catch a good view? Who’s to say, because there aren’t any Instagram posts about that. All we have is what the Tatums have given us, and frankly that’s a lot. There’s no requirement that they share their blessed lives with us, and yet they do, so we should be grateful for what we get.

Congratulations to Channing Tatum on his birthday, and on his new horse, Brightforge. And even more sincere congratulations to Jenna Dewan Tatum, for really nailing the birthday gift this year. She’s going to have a tough act to follow for 37, though I’m sure she’ll figure something out. Already can’t wait to see those Instagrams. Maybe it will be two horses!
