Emilia Clarke Is All for Male Nudity on Game of Thrones

She also revealed her true identity, Mother of Puppies, on The Late Show.

Sunday’s Game of Thrones brought with it plenty of gratifying moments—Sansa putting Littlefinger in his place, more less-than-subtle flirtation between Tormund and Brienne, and, finally, some more full-frontal male nudity. It might not have been exactly aesthetically pleasing, and it might have been subverted within a split second, but nonetheless, the brief appearance of a penis was a blunt answer to frequent calls from fans of the show to balance out its roster of nudity—and for her part, Emilia Clarke was all for it.

Speaking with Stephen Colbert on Monday’s The Late Show, Clarke, who herself is no stranger to being naked on Game of Thrones, agreed it’s about time the show added more sausage to its soup. “You know, I did it; why can’t the boys do it?” Clarke said. (This is not the first time she’s asked for such equality: she actually made the plea for male nudity on The Late Late Show last month.) Clarke also echoed what she’s said before about her own nude scene earlier this season: “I did it before in Season 1, and people like to talk about it, so I just wanted to come out and do an empowered scene that wasn’t sexual; it was naked, but it was strong.”

As with most guest appearances on The Late Show, it wasn’t all serious. Clarke and Colbert also took some time out to compare eyebrows, with a brow-waggling face-off. But the high point of Clarke’s appearance actually occurred backstage, when Colbert greeted her. “I love the Game of Thrones,” Colbert gushed, adding, “I cannot believe the Mother of Dragons is here!” But Clarke corrected him, revealing herself to be the Mother of Puppies—complete with a veritable bevy of fuzzy, floppy cuteness that suddenly surrounded them. When Colbert asked Clarke how many puppies she owns, she chafed: “Own? Stephen, own? A puppy is not a slave.” From the way they ended things, it appears one of the puppies has been taking lessons from Drogon.
