Susan Sarandon Was Less than Thrilled to Be at the D.N.C.

When a D.N.C. attendee tweeted a photo of the actress “literally having the worst time” at the convention, she confirmed this was “accurate.”

Susan Sarandon has long been firmly in the Bernie Sanders camp. And at the D.N.C. in Philadelphia, she made it clear that she likely hasn’t left it. When a tweeter at the convention caught her looking miserable and captioned the GIF, “Susan Sarandon is literally having the worst time at the #DemConvention,” Bernie Bro Sarandon didn’t dispute it. “Accurate,” she responded. The image shows supporters clapping and cheering around her while she stares blanked-face into the distance—not the face of an enthusiastic Democrat.

Sarandon has been quite vocal about her feelings on the 2016 election. In April, she famously talked to Bill Maher about her “Bernie or Bust” stance; she told the talk show host that she was ”going to see what happens” if Hillary got the nomination. And at the Nevada Democratic Caucus this year, Sarandon got into a screaming match with labor activist Delores Huerta over Sanders. She said that Huerta was destroying unions by supporting Clinton.

Flash forward to the days preceding the D.N.C., when a WikiLeaks dump revealed e-mails that proved chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz and the D.N.C. had worked in favor of Clinton during the primary. This led to Wasserman Schultz’s resignation, which Sanders celebrated at the D.N.C., while pushing his supporters toward the Hillary camp. Sarandon was quick to comment on the leak, calling the D.N.C.’s favoritism ”disgusting.”

And, when it comes to Hillary, it seems Sarandon still hasn’t budged from her staunch position of indecision. Even though her candidate of choice has made it known that he is supporting Clinton in the election, she is still waiting to be persuaded to join team Clinton, according to the AP.

Sarandon has deemed Clinton “more dangerous” than Trump, and a stance like that makes for a pretty terrible trip to Philly and the D.N.C., where Michelle Obama just announced her support of the Democratic nominee. She was also sure to make a few pointed remarks at Trump’s expense.

“Because when you have the nuclear codes at your fingertips and the military in your command, you can’t make snap decisions. You can’t have a thin skin or tendency to lash out. You need to be steady and measured and well informed,” she told the crowd of Democrats.

Obama lauded Clinton as “someone with the proven strength to persevere.” To say the least, this is Clinton’s D.N.C., and it’s clearly not Susan Sarandon’s favorite week.
