Last Night on Late Night

Jimmy Kimmel Debuts the Exclusive First Photo of Beyoncé’s Twins

Thanks to Beyoncé, late-night hosts finally got to talk about something other than Donald Trump.

Jimmy Kimmel has premiered trailers on his show before, but never has he gotten a scoop this big: on Monday night, the comedian unveiled the first picture of Beyoncé’s newborn twins, whose names have yet to be unveiled to the world. The comedian thanked “sources” for obtaining the photo, noting, “I should make you wait until the end of the show to see this, but I can’t wait anymore myself.”

. . . Just kidding! Kimmel’s always been fond of pranks, and Monday was no different: instead of the famed newborns, Kimmel unleashed a picture of Eric and Donald Trump Jr. This might be his cruelest trick since the first time he asked parents to tell their children they’ve eaten all of the Halloween candy.

Aside from Kimmel’s Trump-infused prank, late-night hosts seemed relieved to take a break from talking about the president, even if just for a moment or two. Trevor Noah could hardly contain his excitement, gushing, “You know how powerful Beyoncé is? For the first time in history, people actually want to see pictures of kids on Facebook. Everybody’s scrolling, like, ‘Where are they, where are they? Get out of here, dumb nephews, I want to see Beyoncé’s kids!’”

“The one piece of bad news was when Kanye [West] interrupted another woman having twins like, ‘Hey, lady. I’m gonna let you finish, but—you know where this is going,” Noah quipped.

On CBS, James Corden joined in on the celebration, noting during his monologue, “Of course the really big news over the weekend is that Beyoncé’s twins are here,” he said. “Two healthy twins, weighing in at six pounds, seven ’oncés . . . She’s named them Juniper Halo and Coriander Starlight. Those aren’t real names, but none of you questioned it!”

The twins’ potential names were, in fact, one of the most popular jokes of the night. As Jimmy Fallon noted on The Tonight Show, “People figured out they had a boy and a girl when they saw light blue and bright pink balloons being delivered. Incidentally, Light Blue and Bright Pink are also the names they’re considering for the babies.”

And then there was Seth Meyers, who joked, “This is surprising: their names are Kevin and Linda.”
