It’s Prince Charles’s 70th birthday, but we are the ones getting a gift, as the palace has released two new portraits of Charles, his wife Camilla, his two sons, and their families, timed to the Prince of Wales’s birthday. Charles’s birthday has been the center of celebrations for months now, but November 14 is the actual big day, marked by the release of these surprisingly lively portraits.
The first portrait is a more standard, “official” portrait of the entire crew, though tiny Prince Louis manages to pull an amusing face all the same:
And there is a whole lot to revel at in the second portrait, taken in the garden at Clarence House in September, the same day as the shot of Prince Louis that appeared in the recent Charles documentary. (The photos were all taken by Chris Jackson, who also recently traveled to Australia with Harry and Meghan.)
Prince George’s gleeful expression—as the young royal sits perched on his grandfather’s knee—arguably steals the show, but Louis—looking off in the distance—is also a standout. Camilla points something out to Charlotte, while Meghan—dressed in a black and white belted dress—laughs at something as well. (There is definitely a lot of merriment on display here, which is not always the case for royal portraits.)
