“Vive les Frasers? For that show that’s set in Scotland?” Yes, it's true: the second season of Starz’s hit series Outlander is changing things up big time, transplanting our heroes Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) to 1700s France. In this first look at the new season, which premieres April 9, you can see the fashion about-face that Jamie and Claire have done, trading in kilts and practical knits for the opulent garb suitable for Versailles.

See even more in the season 2 trailer, which also debuted today.

Fans of Diana Gabaldon’s book series—season 2 of the show adapts the second book, Dragonfly in Amber—know where the story goes from here. For the rest of us, Starz promises that we can expect to find Jamie and Claire “hell-bent on infiltrating the Jacobite rebellion”—that is, an effort by Charles Edward Stuart, known as “Bonnie Prince Charlie,” to reclaim the English throne on behalf of his family. He was supported by a number of Scottish tribes in his effort, and all were defeated at the battle of Culloden—an event that Jamie and Claire are aiming to stop, since it will lead to “the extinction of Scottish life as they know it.”

So get ready for a lot of history, with a touch of time travel and a lot of high fashion, when Outlander returns at last on April 9.
