Prince William Was Very Excited About a Certain Present for Princess Charlotte

Given the wide array of items that get offered up to the royal family over the various appearances and engagements they make in any given month, one imagines it could be tough for them to work up much enthusiasm about any single gift. “Oh, thank you so much for this neat little . . . is it a towel? A scarf? It’s . . . uh, lovely.”

So that makes it, perhaps, somewhat notable that Prince William reacted very exuberantly earlier this week when, during a visit to Liverpool, he was bestowed three satchels, one for each of his children. The duo behind the bags—Keith and Gail Hanshaw—emblazoned the name of each child on his or her bag, with George’s a navy color, Charlotte’s in light pink, and Louis’s in a camel brown. (The style of the bags is referred to as the “Mini-Windsor,” appropriately enough.)

William said, per the Liverpool Echo, “Charlotte will be obsessed with that—I’ll never be able to get it off her,” and also confirmed that his daughter’s favorite color is pink (a fact we learned from Kate Middleton in the fall). The Daily Mail, somewhat curiously, is using the statement to fuel a headline that Charlotte is “already ‘obsessed’ with fashion”—well, William thinks she’ll like a personalized satchel gifted to her via him, at least!

Earlier this week, it was announced that Louis, Charlotte’s younger brother, will be christened on Monday, July 9.
