Designers Are Distancing Themselves from Louise Linton

And Linton herself seems to wish the infamous Instagram had never happened.

It only took a few hours of Internet backlash for Louise Linton to issue an apology for her controversial Instagram post from Monday night, where she not only flaunted her more than $13,000 outfit, but lashed out at a commenter in a Marie Antoinette-inspired tirade. After deleting the post and making her Instagram account private, Linton released a brief statement via her publicist. “I apologize for my post on social media yesterday as well as my response,” she said. “It was inappropriate and highly insensitive.”

The photo in question showed Linton and her husband, Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin, exiting a private government plane after a trip to Kentucky. Linton, who wore an all-white look for the trip, included hashtags of the designer labels she was wearing including Hermès, Valentino, Roland Mouret, and Tom Ford. According to WWD, Valentino and Tom Ford are distancing itself from Linton and the controversy. A spokesperson from Valentino issued a statement saying, “Louise Linton did not receive any gifted merchandise, compensation or loans from Valentino,” while Tom Ford also confirmed that they are not affiliated with Linton and have not sent her any merchandise.

The Treasury Department has also attempted to put out the fire, telling the press that Linton was not compensated by the designers she mentioned. They also said the Mnuchins have promised to reimburse the government for Linton’s travel to Kentucky.

It’s good to know that at least someone in Washington is being held accountable for their social-media snafus.
