Kristen Stewart Just Can’t Give Up the Ghost in Personal Shopper

Get your first look at the actress’s moody latest, a spine-tingling supernatural drama.

Yes, Kristen Stewart is once again starring in a spooky drama marked by supernatural forces. No, it’s nothing like Twilight. Her latest project is instead a moody, meditative psychological thriller that re-teams the star with her Clouds of Sils Maria director Olivier Assayas. Here, Stewart plays Maureen—a personal shopper for the stars, yes, but also an ennui-stricken expat mourning the sudden death of her twin brother. The twist? As you’ll see in the trailer above, premiering exclusively on VanityFair.com, he may not have left the earthly realm entirely.

Vanity Fair critic Richard Lawson raved about the film after its Cannes premiere, calling it “strange, frightening, and possessed of a dark ribbon of sadness that no champagne gulped down at a post-screening beach party could drown out.” Stewart, for her part, calls it one of the toughest movies she’s ever made: “I genuinely felt closer to death on a movie than I’ve ever felt,” she told Vanity Fair in January. “[Assayas] sort of gave me this opportunity for a short period of time to contemplate infinity in a really disarming and scary way, that’s like little questions that you ignore when you lay your head down on your pillow at night. Like, ‘I'm alone, who am I?’ All those things, they plague her.” You can see the fruits of her labor next year, when Personal Shopper arrives in theaters March 10.
