Have you ever been in a situation where you and a friend, or you and a significant other, were planning to go to a party, or a concert, or on a trip, one that you’d been talking about for a long time, and then, for whatever reason, last minute, a conflict arises, or something comes up, and you have to cancel? You tell your friend, and they plead with you to try to figure things out and re-arrange your plans, but you can’t: “I need to stay for this work dinner—I know it sounds crazy, but there’s nothing I can do.” So your friend goes to the event on their own (or maybe with a different, replacement friend) and they’re still sort of annoyed at you, and they spend the entire time they’re there texting you updates and Snapping you videos. You respond to the first few, sure, to be polite, but then you start to get sort of . . . bothered: you wanted to be there, and you couldn’t be there, and now you’re being made to feel even worse.
If this is a relatable experience to you in any way, well, you can now say with (some) accuracy that you have something tangible in common with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West!
Kardashian, in a clip released Monday, sat down with Chrissy Teigen for one of her Inner Circle videos on her app, in which she chats with a friend of hers. The two friends—who recently appeared together in Fergie’s “M.I.L.F. $” video—shared the story of how they met (“. . . I was so nervous to meet you,” Teigen said. “I knew all about you. I felt like kind of a weirdo”), and also how their bond has strengthened as both became mothers (“You want to tell all of your friends going through the same experience [what you’ve figured out]”).
The two also revealed—and we’re about to return to our preface—that they, coincidentally, each got in a major fight with their spouse at the other’s wedding. Chrissy explained, “John [Legend] and I got in the biggest fight at Kim and Kanye’s wedding that you’ve ever seen in your whole life,” explaining it “came from alcohol.” (She gave no further details, but perhaps John just felt really, really distressed about Rob Kardashian flying out before the ceremony, and everything escalated from there.)
Kim then jumped in to share that she and Kanye had in fact had a reciprocal experience, even though she was not even present for Chrissy and John's wedding. “Wait, I got in a fight with Kanye during your wedding,” Kim said. “I didn’t go . . . [North] was just born and I was so fat, and I had nothing to wear, so then he kept texting me, ‘Babe, this is the most beautiful wedding,’ ‘Babe, this is so pretty. I really wish you were here at Lake Como.’ . . . Literally a play-by-play text. We got into the biggest fight. ‘Just stop texting me. Go enjoy the wedding, you’re making me feel so bad!’”
In a way, though, even though the live-texting might be irritating, there is something pretty sweet about this sort of behavior, no? Even though he was in Lake Como at an extravagant wedding surrounded by famous people and jars filled with jewels and caviar (we’re assuming), all that was on his mind was Kim.
