Cara Delevingne, model socialite, socialite model, attended Princess Eugenie’s wedding this October in a full tuxedo—trousers, cummerbund, and a waistcoat with tails—complete with a top hat and heels. It was the biggest look of the day (besides the bride’s) because royal protocol is thought to be so strict, and the invitation plainly stipulated, “Dress: Morning Coat [for men]/Day Dress with Hat [for women].” In a new interview with Grazia, however, Delevingne said wearing a three-piece suit was simply a matter of texting the bride. “Eugenie has been a friend of mine since I was a kid and I’ve always wanted to wear tails,” she said recently. “I texted her, as I wasn’t sure about it, and she was like: ‘Of course, I expected nothing else from you!’”

A couple reminders and revelations here: 1) Delevingne is a Delevingne, a society family. Her mother, Pandora, was an 80s socialite and close friend of Eugenie’s mother, Sarah Ferguson, from school. So they go way back. 2) Delevingne is on the level of friendship with a princess that she can text the princess bride-to-be about her own outfit before the wedding, and get her blessing. And lastly, the most royal-protocol-breaching look was blessed by a princess.

I wonder who could’ve gotten the sign-off for their outfit for Meghan Markle’s wedding. Serena Williams, maybe? Probably Priyanka Chopra. Oprah, definitely. There in the group text chain is Chopra saying, “How do we feel about yellow, Meghs? Too much?” Oprah texts back, “Only make decisions that support your self-image, self-esteem, and self-worth.” “Ya exactly,” Meghan adds.

In other royal wedding news, one of Meghan’s own wedding looks is suddenly easier to achieve. As of Tuesday, anyone can buy her après le mariage Stella McCartney dress by appointment. The high-neck, open-back ivory gown delivered the newly minted Duchess of Sussex through the night at the second reception at Frogmore House. It was a fan favorite back in May, and is now the foundation on which McCartney has launched her entire bridal line, “Made with Love.” That’s British synergy.

And for Delevingne’s information: there’s a tuxedo option in there as well, just in case there’s any reason to be looking for such a thing.
