After weeks of teases, the official Game of Thrones Season 7 trailer is finally here—stuffed with thrilling footage (that dragon in flight!) and a few precious bits of dialogue that indicate what’s in store when the series returns in July. While most of our main players are preparing to duke it out for control of the Seven Kingdoms, a handful of them know that there’s a far greater threat lurking beyond the Wall: “If we don’t put aside our enmities and band together, we will die,” the ever-wise Davos explains. “And then it doesn’t matter whose skeleton sits on the Iron Throne.”

There are a number of ways to approach this upcoming season, which is farther off the map from George R.R. Martin’s existing books than ever. You could pore obsessively over every detail, trying to figure out how the key players will clash and ally themselves this year—or you could just let the spectacle of massive dragons, horse-stunting Dothraki, and gilded, marching Lannister soldiers wash over you. Whatever is coming this season, this trailer guarantees that it will at least be a feast for the eyes.

But if you’re a pore-over-the-details type, here are some things to notice. It looks like Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel) and Grey Worm (Jacob Anderson) as well as Ellaria Sand (Indira Varma) and Yara Greyjoy (Gemma Whelan) are making time for a little love to go along with all that war. But when it comes to war, it also looks like the Dothraki are getting caught up in a massive sea battle. Judging by the sparks tumbling down over Theon (Alfie Allen), it’s safe to guess we might see Euron Greyjoy’s Ironborn tangle with his niece and nephew, as well as Daenerys’s mounted calvary. Speaking of the mother of dragons, while her little dragon children are looking all grown up, her right hand man is looking very much worse for wear. That’s likely poor Jorah (Iain Glen) sticking his mangled, greyscale-afflicted arm out to be inspected.

We see Arya steadily making her way North, as Maisie Williams becomes the last Stark child actor to grapple with the difficulties of filming in snow. A full Stark family reunion feels very likely in Season 7. But if and when Arya gets to Winterfell, she might encounter a family divided: in the trailer, we see Littlefinger (Aiden Gillen) continuing his poisonous whisper campaign with Sansa (Sophie Turner). We then briefly see Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) throw Lord Baelish roughly against a wall in what looks like the Winterfell crypts. Those crypts, you might remember, are home to the statue of Lyanna Stark—who, in Season 6, we discovered is Jon’s real mother. The last time Littlefinger was down in those crypts, he indicated to Sansa that he knew more about her Aunt Lyanna than he was telling her. Will he be the one to tell Jon that Ned Stark is not his real father? Not being Ned’s son (bastard or otherwise) would weaken Jon’s claim to the Northern throne—which is exactly what Baelish wants.

But enough about kings! The trailer also makes sure that you’re suitably wound up for the upcoming clash of queens, with both Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) and Cersei (Lena Headey) gearing up for battle. The Lannisters started this series on top of the world, and though Cersei’s calculating self is sitting on the Iron Throne, as she points out to her brother, she and Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) are the last of their family. (The last ones who count, anyway.) This is exactly the precarious position in which Daenerys and her brother, Viserys, began back in Season 1. That wheel of power keeps turning, and we’ll have to tune in this summer to find out who winds up on top when all is said and done. Game of Thrones returns on HBO July 16.
