Tonight, Kesha performed her emotional cover of Bob Dylan’s “It Ain’t Me, Babe” at the Billboard Music Awards. Earlier in the week, the artist temporarily had her opportunity to perform at the BBMAs rescinded when Kemosabe Records caught wind of a plan for her to perform while images of her producer and alleged abuser, Dr. Luke, played in the background.

She took the stage in a white suit covered in sequined appliqué patches including a rainbow and a cross. Her performance was stripped down and bare bones; her only accompaniment Ben Folds—also her companion at tonight’s show and a violinist. Kesha sang with her eyes closed, lost in the music. She didn’t make any statements about Dr. Luke or her ongoing court cases. The audience applauded warmly when she finished her song.

After Kemosabe temporarily revoked its permission for Kesha to sing at the Billboard Awards earlier this week, she teamed up with Ben Folds and contemporary classical ensemble yMusic to perform her cover of “It Ain’t Me, Babe” onstage at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles on Wednesday. She also went on Instagram to deny reports that she would use her BBMAs performance to make a public statement against Dr. Luke. These two events provided enough evidence to sway the people at Kemosabe Records and Dick Clark Productions—the company producing the Billboard Music Awards—and Kesha was once again given the green light to sing at the awards show.
